Regulations
The Pan African Mathematics Olympiad (PAMO) is governed by a set of regulations designed to ensure fairness, integrity, and the highest standards of competition. All participants, team leaders, and organizers are expected to adhere to these rules throughout the event.
Eligibility
- Participants must be secondary school students who have not entered university and are under 20 years of age on July 1st of the competition year.
- Each country may send a team of up to six students, accompanied by a team leader and deputy leader.
Competition Format
- The Olympiad consists of two examination days, each with three problems to be solved within four and a half hours.
- Problems cover various areas of mathematics, including algebra, geometry, combinatorics, and number theory.
Conduct
- Participants must work independently and may not communicate with anyone except the invigilators during the exam.
- No calculators, mobile phones, or electronic devices are allowed in the examination room.
Scoring and Awards
- Each problem is worth a maximum of 7 points, for a total of 42 points.
- Gold, silver, and bronze medals are awarded based on individual scores. Honorable mentions may also be given.
Disputes
- Any disputes or appeals regarding the marking of scripts must be submitted by the team leader to the Jury within the designated time.
- The Jury’s decisions are final.
